Course Description
This is the third of a three-term sequence of Elementary Hindi with Dr. Rajiv Ranjan. The focus of the course is to develop students’ linguistic (grammar and vocabulary), communicative (reading, writing, speaking, and listening), and cultural competence. The course will follow Dr. Ranjan's open-access online textbooks, Basic Hindi 1, and Hindi-Urdu.
HINDI 103 aims to develop students’ proficiency up to the intermediate-mid or intermediate-high level of the American Council on the Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL) proficiency scale. Hindi 103 students will solidify the foundational Hindi knowledge acquired in Hindi 101 and Hindi 102. In Hindi 103, we will develop skills needed for daily conversation in the Hindi language. The pedagogical approach of this course will be primarily communicative; however, we will adopt various techniques to meet the learning styles of the students in a unique online learning environment.
By the end of the HINDI 103 course, students will be able to read and write in Hindi and handle intermediate high-level interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational modes of communication along with cultural appropriateness in Hindi.
The Elementary Hindi Series will provide a strong foundation for those wishing to continue their study of the language, empower students to travel and communicate in India, begin translation work, engage with Hindi-language films, and more!
Students who have not completed HINDI 101-102 with us are welcome to join, so long as they have sufficient language training.
